Analysis of the Impact of Oil Prices on the Global Economy Essay

1. Introduction The price of oil becomes the bone of contention recently. Oil price seems to be hitting new highs with the regularity of a metronome. It is a bad news for customers who have to pay more on it. More frightening still, this situation may get worse before it come back to normal. No one can exactly predict when the pendulum will soon swing back again since all uncertain factors existing. From the supply side of view, the OPEC is the main producer, being prepared to add or subtract production to balance demand. Moreover, Russia is another major producer of oil in the world. They usually produce more when demand more and subtract when demand reduce to control the price of oil. Anyway, speculator is another factor we have to consider in short run. From demand side of view, every country is trying to reduce the consumption on petroleum, the government use tax strategy to control the oil price. Further more, government strategic oil reserves have to be considered as a factor which causes oil supply shortage. Next, let ¡Ã‚ ¦s discuss in detail how the demand and supply relation affect the price of oil. 2. Microeconomic Analysis 2.1 Analysis of Market Form There are not so many oil producers in the world; the countries that produce most of the world ¡Ã‚ ¦s oil have formed a cartel, which called Organization of Petrolum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Those countries controlled about three-quarters of the world ¡Ã‚ ¦s oil reserve. Within the OPEC countries, they tries to raise the price of its product through reducing in quantity produced and OPEC tries to set production levels for each of the member countries. From this point of view, oil market belongs to oligopoly which only a few sellers offer similar or identical products. In this form, the producers produce a quantity of output greater than the level produced by monopoly and less than the level produced by competition. The oligopoly price is less than the monopoly price but greater than the competitive price. Therefore, supply and demand theory can be applied in oligopoly form of market. 2.2. Supply and Demand Analysis 2.2.1 Oil Supply Analysis Supply refers to both the ability to sell and the willingness to sell by the producer. Actually, many factors can determine the quantity and individual supplies ¡Xinput prices, technology, expectations. The quantity supplied rises as the price rises and f... ...by tax. When the oil price goes up, the government will tax more on fuel, vice versa. Therefore, it will benefit the domestic consumers. Other factor is the Iraq influence, political unrest can leave the world without enough oil to go round. 3. Conclusion There are too many uncertainties existing in the world oil price. According to the analysis, the price may keep going up due to the shortage of supplies and increasing of demand without considering the speculators factor in short-run. In long-run, the oil price will definitely go down. On the other hand, the price may be peaked already. This will result of the speculators unloading their oil inventories, causing prices to fall sharply. Nguyen The Affirmative Policy Brief The U.S.F.G should ban the sale of super-hero related products intended for minors Definitions of key terms: (found in Cambridge dictionary) Minor=under 18 years old Superhero= a character in stories or movies who has special powers, such as the ability to fly, that are used for fighting evil or helping people Products= something that is made to be sold, esp. something produced by an industrial process. I argue that we should impose a ban on the sale of superhero related products intended for minors. Superhero items stunts development because of violence and imagination confining scripted toys. We, therefore, should turn to different types of activities that foster a safer environment and healthier attitude towards play time. Children are easily impressionable so it is necessary to monitor the play time in which they partake in. Contention one: The Problem here is superhero items promote violence. Claim: We are setting an example to children that it is okay to use force or violence to attain goals or solve a problem. Superhero play can romanticize fighting and killing and foster unnecessary aggression. Superhero television shows can undermine conflict resolution skills and desensitize children to violence. Mr. Principal, Venerated poet, Maya Angelou, once wrote, â€Å"few survive, if any, survive their teens. Most surrender to the vague but murderous pressure of†¦ conformity.† This is especially true in the education system, where impressionable youth submit to a doctrine of doing simply what they are told, doing as others do. Nearly all schools rain down this ruling, as in many cases it is necessary to their functionality, so as to avoid a becoming a system that runs on a mild form of anarchy. However, in many cases, the conformist rule is unnecessarily strong, and grossly impeding on personal freedoms, as I’ve seen myself within our own school. The education system has a legal system within itself. To question the rules, or â€Å"law† so to†¦show more content†¦I sat in a history class, a course that often did not provide me with difficulties; it was a course that I felt capable of managing without stress, or extra attention. As the class was given a substantial sum of time to be dedicated towards work, I chose to turn my focus towards assignments from a different course that provided me with a greater challenge. Not long after determining to do so, my teacher challenged my decision, and asserted that my time in the class should be devoted to history alone. The class was silent, and the matter instantly gained the attention of the room. I responded with my beliefs, stating that I feel I should be able to devote my personal time to the areas that require it. Afterall, a student should not be coerced into inefficiently spending work time, of which they may have little of, to endeavors that would not use it well. In the end, the teacher resolved that there was sense behind my actions, and that I would be allowed to continue working as I’d like. Despite the attention my opposition caused that may lend itself to embarrassment, I displayed nothing of the sort, and continued to operate under my convictions, revealing to my cla ssmates that they may choose to do they same, if they ever find themself in a similar circumstance. How Much Television is too much? How much television is too much? Well on an average, children spend 25 hours a week watching television. And who’s to say it’s even quality stuff that they’re watching? This is a big question among many, if not all, American families. People today spend more time watching television than on any other single leisure activity. In fact, studies have shown that the average child spends more time in front of the television than in school. (Patterson, 2001) Television was once an educator, but overtime is gradually ruining our youth. This is true, but it depends on what type of material is being taught. People are learning how to make bombs, shoot guns, and blow up small countries across the seas.
